1)Which DNA double helix do you think would be harder to separate into two strands: DNA composed predominantly of AT base pairs, or of GC base pairs? Why?

1) It is harder to break GC base pairs, because it contains three hydrogen bonds between each other making it much stronger than the two hydrogen bond holding AT base pairs. Breaking of two three bonds is harder than breaking two, because the bond strength increses with no.of bonds inbetween.

2)A mutation is a change that occurs in our DNA sequence that makes up a gene.
(either due to errors which occured In transcripton,translation processes or environmental changes.)

1. DNA composed predominantly of GC base pairs would be harder to separate into two strands because it contains three hydrogen bonds between each other whereas AT contains only two hydrogen bonds between them therefore AT requires less energy to be broken than GC.

2. A mutation is an unpredictable change in the structure of DNA, or in the structure and number of chromosomes.

1)GC base pairs are stronger, due to their three hydrogen bonds (as compared to an AT pair's two), so a DNA composed of mostly Gs and Cs would be harder to separate into two strands.

2)A mutation is a change that occurs in our DNA sequence, either due to mistakes when the DNA is copied or as the result of environmental factors such as UV light and cigarette smoke.

1.CG. Guanine and Cytosine are more difficult to break.
because GC has 3 hydrogen bonds while AT has only 2 hydrogen bonds therefore GC is more stable than AT and harder to separate. Therefore, more energy is needed to remove GC bond.

2. Mutation is a natural process that changes a DNA sequence. caused by the alteration of single base units in DNA, or the deletion, insertion, or rearrangement of larger sections of genes or chromosomes. Mutations can be genetically inherited or other environmental factors. ( such as UV rays)
